Hitting its Mark: The Landing Restaurant

“Well worth the trip." These words were the first thing I uttered to my wife as we left The Landing Restaurant. The Landing is located along the beautiful Nantuxent Creek in Newport. It's "a little" off the beaten path, but don't let that deter you.

The Landing Restaurant has a large, clean, well-lit dining room, with a smaller room off to the side, a great "down home" feel. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and happy to help you decide your entree choice. The atmosphere and staff aside, folks come to The Landing's for the scrumptious food.

We began our dinner with an order of plump steamed clams. Thankfully, our friendly waitress, Deanna, suggested we split the order. The large bowl could have been a meal by itself. The clams were tender and tasty, swimming in a broth she called "the works". It consisted of oil, OldBay, onions, parsley, sundried tomatoes, pepper and other flavorful spices. It was a perfect start to our dining experience.

The clams were followed by a fresh, crispy salad. My wife's main course was broiled flounder in a butter sauce. She said it was the moistest, most perfectly seasoned flounder she's ever had. There were two large pieces, so she was able to take one piece home for later. A piping hot, fluffy baked potato and a large serving of crispy, freshly made cole slaw accompanied the flounder.

For my entree I ordered the king of fish, the salmon. Again, two generous pieces, wonderfully moist and perfectly seasoned. I, too, enjoyed the same sides, same deliciousness.

We finished our dinner with an absolutely delicious piece of freshly baked key lime pie. The sweet graham cracker crust made this semi-tart pie a winner. The perfect ending for a perfect dinner.

The Landing Restaurant also serves breakfast and lunch and is located at 91 Landing Road, Newport. The phone number is 856-447-1100. The restaurant is next to the Sundog Marina and nestled along the Nantuxent Creek, where the views are beautiful.

See what people are saying about us!

“PHILLY CAROL” from “CRUISIN 92.1 RADIO” just loves dining at THE LANDING RESTAURANT. IT IS MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I love meeting friends there. The food is delicious and the view is outstanding. MY FAVORITE DISHES ARE THE FRIED OYSTER PLATTER AND THE CLAMS OVER LINGUINI. There are so many delicious entree’s you have to go check it out. And don’t forget to tell them, “PHILLY CAROL SENT YOU!”

"Off the beaten track, but well worth the drive. A friendly little family diner with good, basic home cooking and some of the best specialty burgers I've had. Went there the first time on some local's recommendation for breakfast. Staff was friendly and acted like they had known us for years! As birdwatchers, we were pleased that we could observe three separate Bald Eagle nests form the dining room. Went back a second time for lunch and had the burgers. Large, perfectly cooked to our order, and a good price."

“I had the broiled crabcakes which were excellent. BYOB; Waterfront view with great sunsets. They are open all year and the winter sunsets are beautiful.”

“My baked stuffed pork chop was phenomenal at the very modest cost of $ 10:95. Moist stuffing with celery and onion. Tender juicy pork. Included sides of mash potatoes and brown gravy, and very good Cole slaw, American style, with just the right amount of mayonnaise and a tad too much sugar. Overall, great sliced slaw. Included in the daily special is a cup of Lima Bean and Ham soup. Nice rich tan broth with tender beans, carrots, onions, garlic and all that good stuff. Obliviously homemade, served steaming hot and one of the best soups I have had recently, a must try......A varied menu of meats, chicken, seafood, and the wonderful dinner specials. The Landing restaurant is located in Newport at Newport Landing which was a stop for steamships in the early 1900's to transport vegetables and seafood. Let's make this easy. Just punch in 39 / 0 17.5' N 075 / 0 11.8 W. You won't be sorry.”

"The kind of place that doesn't exist anymore! Just order the crab bisque. I ran into this place with a friend a couple of years ago. We were sort of lost. If you're not from nearby, you have to be sort of lost to find it. It is not on the way to anywhere. It is on a dead end. It is on a dead end sharing space with a little marina on a little river with the tide flowing in or out and outrageous views over the salt marshes, especially at sunset, especially in the winter. I grew up in South Jersey and I go to this restaurant every single time I go back to South Jersey. It has basic good American diner food, but just order the crab bisque. And before you leave, check to see if they have the current Striper or Flounder Tournament T-Shirt, because you will need one of them, too.”
